Main Halyard Block

Do you find yourself heaving on the main halyard when raising the sail? Hurt your hands? then you may have a jammed or dirty top mast block (or your masthead float is stuck in the shroud stays!!). The Xenon sail can be raised with a minmum of effort when the top block is running freely, if this is not the case check the top block.

If the dinghy capsizes and the mast touches the mud, the block can easily gather a layer of grit etc. This dries and the sheave begins to stick. Use a hose to clear out the mud, and a long haired brush if necessary. When the dirt has been cleaned away spray the block bearing with silicon lubricant. You will notice a surprising improvement in the ease with which the sail can be hoisted.
